Local fiestas in Jávea
Bonfires on the beach, processions through the old town and music until late — Jávea celebrates dozens of traditional fiestas throughout the year.
Fiestas are at the heart of life in Jávea. Every neighbourhood and every saint has its own celebration, often dating back centuries and shaped by both Mediterranean Catholic tradition and the town's seafaring history.
Most fiestas are free, take place outdoors and combine religious processions, live music, fireworks and local food. Many are concentrated between June and September, so summer visitors will almost always catch at least one.
The main annual fiestas
These are the celebrations that draw the biggest crowds and shape Jávea's summer calendar.
- Sant Joan (24 June) – bonfires and a midnight swim at Arenal beach.
- Fogueres de Sant Joan – days of street parties around the bonfires.
- Fiestas de la Mare de Déu de Loreto (early September) – patron of the port, with sea processions and a parade of decorated fishing boats.
- Fiestas de Jesús Nazareno (April–May) – patron of the old town, two weeks of religious and street events.
- Moros y Cristianos (mid-July) – spectacular parades, treated separately on its own page.
What to expect as a visitor
Fiestas are local and family-oriented. Streets close, restaurants stay open late and the atmosphere is welcoming — there is no need to book or buy tickets for most events. Bring cash for food stalls, comfortable shoes for cobbled streets and expect noise (especially from firecrackers, masclets).
Best places to stay during fiesta season
If you want to be in the middle of the action, look for a rental in or near the Old Town (Pueblo) or Puerto de Jávea. For a quieter base with easy access, villas in Arenal, Tosalet or Balcón al Mar are within a short drive.
